Background
Information
The
Allen County Health Department is committed to protecting the health
and safety of our residents by preventing the spread of communicable
diseases.
Disease Monitoring & Epidemiology
The disease
monitoring program gathers information on infectious conditions of
public health concern from doctors, hospitals, and laboratories.
In Allen
County, we also work closely with area schools to track attendance.
Several websites are also monitored for local, national and
international trends so that professionals can prepare for potential
increases of disease and emerging infections. In addition,
information is also collected on some behaviors that may put people
at risk of disease, and on medical procedures such as immunization,
which may help prevent disease.
We use this
information to detect and control disease outbreaks, treat patients
and contacts, and provide education.

The level of urgency and method of reporting varies depending on the
